UoY community update

An easier way to access information on student support and wellbeing

We recently collaborated with students to redesign our student support and wellbeing web pages. All information can now be accessed from a single landing page (york.ac.uk/students/support) and is categorised into six simple support areas. A new section on the landing page called 'Ask for support or advice' will also help you find the right referral forms and information about specialist teams you may need to contact.

Tuition fee instalment - 31 October 2026

A quick reminder that if you pay your own tuition fees or accommodation costs, a payment instalment is due at the end of this month. The easiest way to pay is via the ‘My Finance’ section in e:vision. If you have set up a direct debit, this will be automatically taken around the due date. REMEMBER: We will never contact you and ask for your card details over the phone for payments. See our 7 tips for spotting a scam.

Access It All money advice drop-in

Our next Access It All money advice session for disabled and neurodivergent undergraduates is in Constantine Forum on Wednesday (28 October). Drop in any time during the session and our friendly staff will meet you at the registration desk and signpost you to specialist advisers who can help you with managing your money, Personal Independence Payments, Disabled Students Allowance and more.

Meningitis B clinic on campus

There is a Meningitis B vaccine clinic on campus until Wednesday (28 October). New students attending university for the first time this year are eligible. Drop in to get either your first or second dose.

1. Looking ahead to Consolidation Week

It’s Consolidation Week next week - a chance to take a break, catch up on your studies, reflect on your learning and plan your next steps. From academic skills workshops to events on campus, there are plenty of ways to make the most of the week. Read our suggestions for things you could do to make the most of Consolidation Week 2026.

2. A new chapter for the Morrell Library

The Morrell Library refurbishment finishes this week, with the main Library entrance and exit expected to return to normal from 8am Tuesday, 27 October - just in time for the Morrell Library’s 60th birthday! Be sure to stop by the new Library entrance to join in the celebrations - including giveaways of exclusive Library merch all morning.

New: As part of our improvements to campus safety, all students will need to use their physical Unicard to enter the Library after 7pm onwards. (Temporary library cards and the MyUoY app cannot be used for entry after this time).

3. Do you need funding for a project?

The latest round of YuFund is now open, with grants up to £5,000 for projects run by student clubs and societies. Previous successful projects include pump funding for Sewing Soc to help repair old machines and purchase new ones, plus new spray decks for Canoe Polo to increase water safety for members. Application deadline: Thursday 12 November, 9am. For funding needs below £500, please visit the YuStart crowdfunding platform, where your club can receive up to £500 in match funding!

4. Get involved in our local community

Gain valuable work experience, connect with others beyond campus and help shape the lives of young learners with the York Students in Schools (YSIS) programme.

  • Applications are now open for Classroom Assistants, Speech, Language and Communication Assistants, Transition Support Mentors and GCSE Tutoring roles in local schools and nurseries.
  • Speak another language? Join our Language Support Register to help newly arrived children in UK schools who share your language

5. Make the most of spooky season in York

Unofficially known as the ‘most haunted city in Europe’, York is steeped in spooktacular ways to take a well deserved break from your studies, right on your doorstep. From pumpkin picking to ghostly tours, campus crafts to small business stalls at the Yorkshire Halloween Festival, there are plenty of tricks and treats to explore across the city. You may even spot a familiar feathered friend amidst the Ghosts in the Gardens…

Looking for some autumnal inspiration? Make the most of the final few days of the John Langton exhibition in Heslington Hall (until 29 October) or soak up the beauty of our local wildlife at the York City Nature exhibition at the Norman Rea Gallery (27-30 October, 2-3 November).

Your voice

From Roman soldiers to medieval ghosts, York’s ancient streets are filled with plenty of haunted history. Lucas and Felix take us on their spooky tour of York - are you brave enough to explore?
