UoY community update

Your student finance

If you have applied for a student loan, your funds are paid within five working days of the start of your programme, as long as you have completed enrolment. See our advice if you haven’t received your student loan by Monday 22 September 2025.

Are your contact details up to date?

Have you moved address for this academic year? All students need to update your term-time address in e:Vision.

IT Support

Need help with IT? Until Friday 26 September, there are extra drop-in IT support sessions at the Library. Find out more about IT support for new and returning students.

Lift upgrades

Please be aware of ongoing lift upgrades; in particular the Derwent Nucleus lift will remain closed throughout part of Semester 1. Updates are shared on the campus disruptions web page.

Roadworks on Hull Road

City of York Council are carrying out essential carriageway resurfacing works on Hull Road until late October 2025. This may cause significant traffic delays so we recommend leaving extra time when planning your journey to and from campus.

Students dancing in a club in front of a DJ set

Look after yourself during the welcome period. Please consider your safety and others:

  • Read our tips for staying safe on a night out, including who you can call on for help. Going on a York SU club night? Check out the York SU Night Safety Toolkit
  • Download the SafeZone app
  • Stay together and avoid the rivers
  • Be considerate of your neighbours and keep noise levels down

3. If you feel unwell

Healthcare

In a large community such as ours, we all need to do what we can to minimise the spread of infectious illnesses. Remember your student healthcare 1,2,3:

  • Register with a local doctor
  • Make sure your vaccinations are up to date
  • Fever, aches, coughs? Learn the tell-tale signs of infectious illnesses

If you do feel unwell, let someone know but avoid close contact with people to prevent spreading any infection. Seek medical help if you’re worried. See our student healthcare web page for more information and check your department handbook for what to do if you’re ill and can’t attend teaching sessions.

4. Become a Student Ambassador

Looking for paid part-time work alongside your studies? Apply to become a Student Ambassador. There are undergraduate, postgraduate and international student roles. Offering flexible shifts, paid training and varied work, it’s also a great opportunity to learn new skills. Applications may close early according to demand so don’t delay!

5. Be a student feedback volunteer

Sign up to be a student feedback volunteer for opportunities to take part in things like student focus groups, surveys, photo shoots and social media activities. Often you can earn vouchers and rewards as a thank you.
