York Festival of Ideas 2025 continues

York Festival of Ideas started this weekend and continues until 13 June with a huge variety of mostly free events.

Join us tomorrow for an exclusive on-campus livestream of Michael Morpurgo’s Cobweb, or visit the Festival website to browse the full programme.

17 June: Pre-planned disruptions to IT Services

On Tuesday 17 June, IT Services will be running a pre-planned internal exercise and, as a result, limited disruptions may occur to some IT services across the day.

1. Take part in Pride Month

Alongside celebrations, Pride Month is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community, and demonstrate our commitment to support, hope and solidarity for the future. We welcome all members of our community to join us on Wednesday 4 June for our annual raising of the Progress Pride Flag, and on Saturday 7 June for the York Pride Parade. Find out more about Pride celebrations.

2. Prepare to leave York

If you’ll be moving out of your accommodation soon, there are a few things you’ll need to do before you depart:

  • Whether you live on-campus or in private housing, read through our moving out guide for advice on deposit returns, removing rubbish and avoiding unnecessary charges,
  • If you need to store your belongings -see York SU’s student storage info
  • Return any outstanding Library books by Friday (6 June) - if you are leaving campus over the summer, please do not leave books in York as they are still subject to recall. See the Library's news item for full details.
  • Planning to study over the summer? Find out more about using the VPN to access University services
  • Share your landlord rating for the chance to win £150 worth of supermarket vouchers with York SU
  • Stay connected to support - download TalkCampus for continued support over the summer months, wherever you are in the world.

Leaving the University? Final dates to access IT and Library resources
If you have finished your studies and won’t be returning to York next year, see the IT student leaver guide for more information on when you’ll lose access to your University email account, Library e-sources and the VLE. It’s really important you transfer any files you need before you leave the University and make sure that any accounts set up with your University email address have been transferred to a non-University email address.

3. Check updates to campus services over the summer

If you’ll be staying in York to work, study or research, we’ve put together a roundup of key service updates you’ll need to be aware of over the summer, including outlet opening hours, available study spaces and summer bus timetables.

Pre-planned works will also be taking place across the summer months, which may lead to minor disruptions on campus. Keep an eye on the Campus Disruption webpages to stay up to date with the latest information.

4. Apply for project funding from Mentally Fit York

The Mentally Fit York Fund provides small amounts of funding to projects that help to lay the groundwork for innovative mental health research and/or accelerate the translation of existing research findings into mental health policy and practice. With up to £15,000 worth of funding support available, check your eligibility and apply by Tuesday 1 July.
