UoY community update

Fee payment reminder: 30 April 2025

A quick reminder that if you pay your own tuition fees or campus accommodation costs, a payment instalment is due at the end of this month. The easiest way to pay is via the ‘My Finance’ section in e:Vision. If you have set up a direct debit, this will be automatically taken around the due date. REMEMBER: We will never contact you and ask for your card details over the phone for payments. See our 7 tips for spotting a scam.

Supreme Court ruling

You may have heard about the Supreme Court ruling on the 16 April concerning the legal definition of a woman in the Equality Act 2010. The University has issued a statement on the ruling and reaffirmed our commitment to creating a safe inclusive and welcoming environment for all staff, students and visitors.

Nisa Kimberlow weekend hours update

Nisa Kimberlow is now open from 10am to 6pm at the weekend.

Spring into action and look after our campus

It’s important that we all respect wildlife, use designated BBQ areas, and bin your litter when we’re out and about on campus. Let's keep our shared space enjoyable for everyone.

1. Roses are white!

Good luck to everyone participating in the 60th Roses this weekend! It’s the annual sporting varsity between York and Lancaster University where there are hundreds of sports fixtures and bonus events taking place between Friday and Sunday (2-4 May). Even if you aren’t a massive sports fan, you can still get involved in the Roses buzz! The weekend will also raise awareness and funds for York Mind.

2. Got an idea for a business?

Spend your summer vacation working on launching your business with our support with the Summer Accelerator. If accepted, you’ll get £2,000 living allowance, workspace and specialist business coaching to find out if your plans are heading in the right direction for success. Application deadline: 19 May 2025

3. Explore your options

Thinking about the summer or your future plans? Careers and Placements are here to help you explore your options and support your job or further study applications. For some great ideas, check out our work, volunteering and career planning pages, listen to our What do you actually do? podcast, cast your eye over the actions in your career journey or just come and speak to our advisers! Book a careers appointment via Handshake.

4. Invent a game

Go directly to the Creativity Lab. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200. Games can be a great way to engage people, using play to explore ideas, educate, and inform (or just have a fun time). With our Digital Creativity Day: Invent a game on Monday 12 May, you can explore game-making theory, digital creativity tools and hands-on development to turn your game idea into reality.

5. Love York Awards: nominations now open

The York SU Love York Awards celebrate students’ achievements both on and off campus. If you know someone who's done something incredible, let everyone know about it! This year's categories include: Fundraiser or Campaign of the Year, Liberation in Leadership Award, Event of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Academic Experience. Submit your Love York Award nomination by 12 noon on Friday 2 May.
