UoY community update

Save energy, save resources - switch off before you leave

The University’s annual utility bill amounts to a staggering £13 million. If you’re leaving campus accommodation for the Easter break, please follow our switch-off checklist to help us meet our energy and cost-saving targets. Small changes by everyone can have a big impact.

Complete the vacation switch-off checklist

1. Support over the Easter break

Whether you’re leaving York or sticking around, student support continues over the Easter break. We have lots of information on the website about:

  • Things you need to do if you are leaving York
  • What’s open and what’s happening on campus - including what to do in an emergency and campus accommodation updates
  • Changes to bus services
  • Academic support available over the break
  • How to connect to campus remotely
  • Who is available to help (wherever you are)

2. Your chance to take part in key York research into student wellbeing

You can play a part in important research taking place right here at York by completing our SWANS survey into student wellbeing. By letting us know in the survey how you have been feeling over the past couple of weeks, you’ll contribute to much-needed research into student wellbeing so that we can develop effective strategies to support students. Check your UoY inbox this week for your invitation to take part in the SWANS student wellbeing survey.

3. Life after a Masters: Preparing for interviews

Careers and Placements offer specialised careers support for postgraduate students, including a Life After A Masters event series. Catch up with slides from Semester 1 events on topics such as career planning, CVs and job applications, and applying for a PhD. Then book on the next Life After A Masters event on Tuesday 8 April where the focus is on preparing for interviews

4. International Transgender Day of Visibility

Trans Day of Visibility takes place today (31 March) to celebrate trans and non-binary people and raise awareness of discrimination faced by trans people worldwide. See information about local events and advice on practical matters and support.

5. Your new York SU team for 2025/26

You decided! See the outcome of last week’s York SU Sabbatical Officer elections to find out who will be representing you next academic year. Your new Officer team will take up their roles over the summer, but in the meantime your current Sabbs will continue to work and advocate for you in every area of student life.
