Year of the Horse

Join us at the Year of the Horse celebration event today (16 February)! Experience the colour, sound, and flavour of Lunar New Year through thrilling live Qilin dance, traditional music, authentic food, and interactive crafts. Open to all from 3pm in James Hall.

Pancake Day and Lent

Celebrate Pancake Day tomorrow (17 February) with a choice of sweet or savoury options across campus. Lent begins on Wednesday (18 February) and York Minster is marking Ash Wednesday with three services.

Ramadan: arrangements for students

If you are observing Ramadan and have signed up to the Catered Accommodation or Meals in Advance services on campus, you can collect breakfast packs alongside your evening meal. Read our information about Ramadan.

1. Student Hub: here for you

Here at York, we have lots of people ready to help and we’re making it simple for you to reach out for support: if you have any questions or need any kind of support outside of your programme of study, simply contact the Student Hub. You can call in-person in the Sally Baldwin Buildings on Campus West or you can phone +44 (0)1904 32 4140 or email student-hub@york.ac.uk. We’ll then ensure you get the most appropriate support.

2. Could you lead York SU?

Fancy leading York SU’s work next academic year? It’s time to nominate yourself to be a Sabbatical Officer (or Sabb). There are five full-time paid roles up for grabs where you can focus on an area of student life that interests you. All positions are open to both undergraduates and postgraduates. If you’d like to work and campaign on behalf of students next year, read everything you need to know about the York SU Elections (login required).

3. Become a qualified English language teacher

Would you like to teach English to speakers of other languages? Join our CertTESOL programme, a 5-week course accredited by Trinity College London. The course will be held twice over the summer (in June/July OR August/September). You’ll gain the skills and knowledge to begin your English language teaching journey. Applications close on Saturday 28 February for the June/July course and on Tuesday 31 March for the August/September course. Find out more about CertTESOL and book now.

4. Wrestling with your reading list? How to read online books and articles

Feeling slightly daunted when facing your reading list, library catalogue or a publisher platform? Join the Library team on Friday 20 February (1 - 2.30pm) for a dedicated session designed to help you understand your reading list, how to get most from the library catalogue and how to use publisher platforms to get the texts you need in the file formats you prefer. 5. Study sustainability in 2026/27

Our sustainability-related York Interdisciplinary Modules (YIMs) are now open for applications for 2026/27. These award-winning elective modules are a great opportunity to explore sustainability beyond your degree programme and develop interdisciplinary skills for a changing world.
