UoY community update

Improving Exceptional Circumstances and adjustment support

We are developing a new tool in e:Vision to replace the current systems for applying for:

  • Exceptional Circumstances affecting Assessment;
  • assessment adjustments listed in Student Support Plans; and
  • self-certification of assessment.

Your feedback is hugely important in making sure we get this right. Tell us what you think of the proposed new system by completing our feedback form.

Advice following cyber attacks at major high street stores

Major high street stores have recently been targets of cyber attacks. IT Services recommends changing the passwords of your accounts with targeted retailers or anywhere where you may have used the same password. Read more about phishing, fraud and email scams.

Change to our services at King’s Manor Library

In June, there will be some key changes to Library services offered at King’s Manor.

NSS prize draw winners

Every year, we ask our undergraduate finalists to give their feedback on their time at York through the National Student Survey (NSS). We offered a prize draw as a thank you and 18 lucky NSS prize winners have now been selected.

1. Take a break: study tip #1

Suggesting you step away from your desk might sound like unusual study advice, but plotting in regular breaks to relax can help to reduce stress and renew your focus. Browse the range of guided walking tours taking place in and around the city as part of this year’s York Festival of Ideas, or explore the range of self-guided podcast walks, exhibitions and art trails at a time that works best for you.

Looking for some creative inspiration? Following popular demand, an exclusive on-campus screening of Michael Morpurgo’s Cobweb for UoY staff and students is taking place on Tuesday 3 June.

2. Moving out soon?

Whether you’re living on or off campus, if you’re moving out of your accommodation soon, you’ll want to avoid any unnecessary charges:

  • If you’re in University accommodation, see what you need to do in our handy guide on moving out of your room
  • If you’re in private accommodation, we have information on ending your tenancy and moving out, including advice on your deposit

Wherever you live, please dispose of your rubbish responsibly - use the City of York Council bulk waste facilities or the British Heart Foundation collection boxes on campus for items still in good condition. If you’re leaving your bike on campus over the summer, you’ll need to make sure we know about it. Find out more in our guide to moving out.

3. Help improve student housing in York

How has your student housing been this year? No matter your experience, take a moment to review your accommodation with Rate Your Landlord and help improve the quality of student housing in York.

4. Stay supported throughout the summer

Making plans for the summer sun? Whether you’ll be travelling abroad, working or continuing your studies, you’ve still got a place to talk things through. TalkCampus is 24/7, anonymous and only a tap away - download the TalkCampus app today.

5. Take home a piece of York

Be a Yorkie all summer with our range of official University of York merchandise. There are a range of goodies, including clothing, accessories, gifts and stationery. And if you’re graduating this summer, order your ‘Class of 2025’ hoodie now so that it arrives in time for your big day.
