Action required: Change to wifi and wired networks today (Monday 13 October)

At 12.45pm today, our IT teams made an essential change to the eduroam wifi network and campus wired network. All staff and students need to take the recommended steps to ensure your devices can continue to connect to the University wifi network.

Reconnect your devices to eduroam

Individual exam arrangements deadline

If you need individual exam arrangements for January 2026 assessments, you’ll need to provide Disability Services with appropriate supporting information by Friday 24 October at the latest. For more information on the types of evidence accepted, as well as how to submit this, see our Disability Services frequently asked questions.

On Thursday 16, Friday 17, Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 October, from 8pm until 5am, the U1 bus will not run to York Sport Village. Journeys during this time will run to Campus East interchange instead. For more information, see our campus disruptions web page.

1. Marking National Hate Crime Awareness Week at York

We're clear that hate has no place in our University community and we will support anyone who is affected by it. The aims of Hate Crime Awareness Week, to create a safe place for all, without hate, align with our own values and those of our Students’ Union - you can read our joint statement on the importance of respect within our community here.

Tomorrow (14 October), between 11am-3pm, key teams, including our Conduct and Respect team and Campus Safety, will be in the Library ready to hand out free Respect at York items and provide information about how we’re tackling hate crime.

2. You said, we did: Check-In update

In May 2025, we asked for your feedback on Check-In via a staff and student survey. Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete it. Since then, we have noted what you think works well and we have worked hard on making changes to Check-In as a result of your feedback.

3. Everything you wanted to know about libraries (but were afraid to ask)

Feeling lost amongst the library stacks? Whether you missed out on an earlier library introduction, or just have a question you can’t find the answer to, join our Library team on Friday (17 October) for a relaxed online webinar to (re)introduce you to the UoY Library resources - featuring a virtual tour, step by step walkthrough of common library tasks and friendly faces to answer your questions.

4. Should you use AI?

What is generative AI? And what could - or should - it even be used for? Join our digital skills team on Friday (17 October) for their first in a series of AI-related teaching sessions: A student’s guide to generative AI at York (login required). Building on our student guidance on using artificial intelligence based tools, this hour-long session will explore what AI tools are available to students, advantages and disadvantages to using them, as well as ethical concerns and risks to consider.

5. Tips to beat homesickness

As the adrenaline rush of the start of a new academic year starts to turn into the day-to-day of student life, it’s very normal - and expected - to start missing old routines, faces and comforts. We’ve gathered together our top tips for coping with homesickness, and listed the friendly faces and contacts you can turn to for help and support. Whatever your situation, know you aren’t alone in feeling this way.
