We’re looking forward to welcoming you - or welcoming you back - to York! During the semester, we send you a short student news summary of key things happening each week across the University.
|
Continuing students should already have their Semester 1 timetable, while new students will get their timetable on Wednesday (10 September). You can import your timetable into Google Calendar or bring everything together by downloading the MyUoY app.

2. (Re)connecting on campus

There are welcome events for all over the next few weeks. As well as your college-specific events, the University of York Students' Union is hosting a huge calendar for all students, new and returning.
Come to the Welcome Fair on Saturday 20 September to get your year off to a great start! Find out about societies, sports clubs, media groups and volunteering projects to get involved with and pick up loads of freebies on the way. Head to the York SU website to browse the full timetable of welcome events.
New students - don’t forget to come to your official welcome event to the University, hosted by York SU and the Vice-Chancellor.

3. Keeping safe during welcome
|
The start of a new academic year brings lots of excitement but you do need to take sensible precautions to look after yourself. York’s rivers are dangerous and you should stay away from the water, especially on a night out. Watch your drink and never spike anyone else’s with more alcohol than they’re expecting. By following our tips for a safe night out, everyone can have a great first week at York!
Don’t forget to download the SafeZone app for handy, immediate help on campus in your pocket.

4. It won’t happen to you.. right?
|
You never think it will happen to you but we often hear of scammers targeting students at this time of year. Protect yourself by taking a few moments to find out about regular scams we know of - like the Student Loans Company phishing scam and the fake HMRC tax refunds scam. International students should also be aware of the fake visa or police scam. Learn our seven tell-tale signs of a scam.
Your username and password are vital pieces of your University identity - never share your password. If someone does know it, you need to change your password straight away.
|
5. Develop your language skills
|
Want to learn a language alongside your studies? We offer evening language classes through our Languages for All programme. Choose from a range of languages at multiple proficiency levels - UoY students enjoy a discounted price. Register by Sunday 28 September 2025.
