Our University website turns 30!

30 years ago this week, our first ever University of York website went live! Join us in celebrating this milestone by reading our blog looking back at the history of the website, mapping how it has developed over the past three decades.

See how our website has evolved over 30 years

1. Get the most from Welcome 2024

MyUoY is the official student app at York. It puts most things you’ll need at uni at your fingertips:

  • Need to find a building or a room? We’ve got the campus map
  • Need to see what’s coming up? Check out your personal schedule
  • Need your Library card or to check your Library loans? It’s all there
  • Need to book a study space or see up-to-date seating availability in the Library? Yep, can do
  • Need to see where your nearest coffee is? We let you know where and what’s open
  • Need to see a list of campus events tailored to you? Check the ‘discover’ tab

2. Look after yourself

Look after yourself during the welcome period. Please consider your safety and others:

  • Read our tips for staying safe on a night out, including who you can call on for help
  • Download the SafeZone app
  • Stay together and avoid the rivers - come to our water safety event on Wednesday (18 Sep) to find out more
  • Be considerate of your neighbours and keep noise levels down as you return home

3. If you feel unwell

In a large community such as ours, we all need to do what we can to minimise the spread of infectious illnesses. Remember your student healthcare 1,2,3:

  • Register with a local doctor
  • Make sure your vaccinations are up to date
  • Fever, aches, coughs? Learn the tell-tale signs of infectious illnesses

If you do feel unwell, let someone know but avoid close contact with people to prevent spreading the infection. Seek medical help if you’re worried. See our student healthcare web page for more information and check your department handbook for what to do if you’re ill and can’t attend teaching sessions.

4. Become a Student Ambassador

Looking for paid part-time work alongside your studies? Apply to become a Student Ambassador. There are undergraduate, postgraduate and international student roles. Offering flexible shifts, paid training and varied work, it’s also a great opportunity to learn new skills. Applications may close early according to demand so don’t delay!

5. Give us your feedback

We’re looking for new members to join our Student Expert Panel - a focus group of different student voices who share their perspectives, influence University initiatives and help us enhance your student experience. You don’t need to be an ‘expert’ - just have a passion about making a difference! Find out more about the Student Expert Panel and apply by 23 September.
